North American Cup part 1
The first part of the North American Cup Freestyle Series on the Black River in Watertown, NY was an outstanding success! A ton of great playboaters came to the event and threw down on Route.3 Wave during the 3 day event . Day one was exhibition day along with a “Big Trick” contest. Day two were the prelims and day three was the finals. I placed third in the prelims which got me into the finals, where I earned a respectable third place behind two extremely respectable paddlers, Ruth Gordon and Emily Jackson. There was a decent crowd of local on-lookers at the event, and they got a great show from the likes of Bryan Kirk who placed first in the mens, and Stephen Wright who placed second. Bryan and Steve both threw some huge, amazing moves on a mid-sized wave, convincing me that my regular play-spot is capable of producing some extraordinary moves in the right hands. For the complete results of the competition, check back to www.blackwaterchallenge.net in the next few days. The second half of the event is this coming weekend(September 1st-3rd) on the Ottawa River in Beachburg Ontario, and will hopefully be held on Garberator if the water levels allow it. Wish me luck and come compete or spectate if your travel plans take you through that area of Ontario this weekend! I’ll post some video of both series events next week, so be sure to check back.
